Year 8 Enrolment Package
Introduction
Year Eight at Woree State High School is a continuation of the "middle school" concept. Students will study the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education, Studies of Society and the Environment, and Information Processing, along with two elective subjects per semester (Music - Standard and Extension, Art, Drama, Industrial Technology and Design, Home Economics). They will be placed in form classes and then placed in core classes according to these form classes. There is also the opportunity for students to enter an extension class in core classes. Indigenous students also have the opportunity to attend Gumba Gumba.
Students at Woree State High School will enjoy a number if extra-curricular school-based programmes. These include Student Council, Rugby League, Tournament of the Minds, Chess, Rugby Union and Cheerleading, along with the opportunity to participate in many state and national academic competitions through the Science, Mathematics, English and Technology departments. Students also participate in sports carnivals in swimming, athletics and cross-country, giving the opportunity to continue to Peninsula trials and further.
Students will be monitored on their performance and will remain on "Good Standing" unless they commit any infringements. It is expected that students will attend school at least 80% of any week to remain on "Good Standing", demonstrate punctuality to school, as well as class, and adhere to the school uniform and behaviour policies.
Year Eight students at Woree State High School enjoy privileges and excursions including a Science trip during third term, as well as Laser Tag, NAIDOC celebrations (over a week) and Multimedia presentations.
